SleepAura

A home respiratory-support system design combining a custom mask, integrated tubing, and an intelligent interaction concept to explore a more comfortable, lower-burden everyday experience.

SleepAura

A Personalized Smart-Home System for Sleep Breathing Support

background

SleepAura focuses on the home experience of respiratory support for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The project addresses design challenges associated with conventional continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) equipment, including mask fit, facial pressure, air leakage, operational burden, and a clinical appearance.

The aim is to help respiratory-support equipment fit more naturally into everyday life, considering the experience from first contact and fitting through long-term use rather than treating the device as an isolated piece of hardware.

design goals

The project explores parametric design to improve mask fit and reduce pressure and leakage; AI-assisted closed-loop control to reduce routine setup and interaction demands; and a more home-oriented appearance with positive feedback to lessen the psychological burden of device use and support continued use.

design process

The proposal combines digitally customized hardware with a multimodal closed-loop software concept. It brings additive manufacturing and ergonomic design together with airflow sensing and feedback, treating physical fit and interactive control as parts of the same system rather than separate hardware upgrades.

design outcome

The SleepAura system proposal comprises a modular custom-fit mask, integrated tubing, and a base unit designed for quiet operation. Its form and interaction concept aim to move away from the appearance of industrial medical equipment toward an everyday home-care experience.

This project presents the design of the system, its customized components, and its intended experience. Improvements in comfort, sealing, and long-term use are presented as design goals rather than claims of clinical efficacy.
